Happy New Year!

2014 is finally upon us as we closed the book on a record year. For the folks here at Camp DKR, this year means the fifth anniversary of camp. Get ready because we have big things planned for the lucky campers who join us on this journey. Before we look forward, let's look back at what was a great year. survive. The first week saw record numbers with over 30 campers. Bookending the 2013 experience was another first. Campers had the opportunity to pitch tents and sleep over. 

The campers played capture the flag and woke up to the sounds of hungry horses. Yet, some things do not change. The Red team continued its dominance in the Chore Cup, songs were sung and campers had a blast.

Meet the new camp director!

Hello all! Here at Camp DKR we have a change in leadership. Our very own Chickadee will lead summer camp. She has been apart of camp for three years and led the White Team to victory in the Week 4 Chore Cup. Chickadee is replacing Books as camp director. Despite the leadership change, campers can still expect all the same camp traditions such as the Chore Cup and the songs. Chickadee has big plans for this summer so don't cry about the departure of Books. Instead, pack your bags for summer camp and start counting down the days for the start of camp! We are less than a month away!

Why should join us for the summer? Camp DKR is so much more than a horse camp. We teach fundamental life values such as respect. We also have a great time. The Chore Cup is a staple of Camp DKR as are the weekly the ninja games! Camp DKR is led by the best camp staff in Las Vegas and we want you to join us for this year. Camp DKR 2013 will be better than ever before and you don't want to miss out!

Our team of counselors are the lifeblood to a successful summer camp as you interact with campers and ensure they are having a wonderful time.

The perks of the job include free food, a free shirt and the opportunity to hang out with an awesome executive staff. Also, you can be crazy in a judgment-free zone.

Travel the World with Horses4Heroes

Camp DKR is going Survivor for 2013. Each week, we will be "traveling" to various islands,competing in challenges, crowning the ultimate survivor and kicking a counselor off. (Wow, we just gave away a lot of information.) The camp committee selected Kauai, Upolu, Madagascar, Chile and Bederra as our destinations. Check out the map to see where in the world camp is going!

Summer Camp goes Survivor

Hello all, 

Today, Horses4Heroes announced the theme of its summer camp series, Survivor. We plan to implement elements of the show with a horsey and campy twist as Camp DKR is known for. The Survivor theme simply means that the goal is to survive! Yes, this applies to counselors as well. In another note, applications are available for counselors. (More on that later). 

We don't want to give away too many details so you shall remain in suspense about how Survivor will come alive at summer camp. You can all speculate. 

So to explain the theme. Summer Camp is going on a world wide adventure featuring the island of Kauai, Upolu, Madagascar, and Bederra. Expect fun facts on these islands in the coming weeks/months.

For rodeo week, we "travel" to Chile. Its a desert region and has some rodeo activity.

Our theme puts the focus on competition and Summer Camp 2013 will determine the ultimate survivor, Red or Blue. The hallmark Chore Cup returns as well. 

So here's what you need to know:
